Why do parents dedicate their children? and for that matter why do they baptize them? The child seemingly knows very little of what is happening. Especially if they are an infant. So why is this so significant? I can only speak from my experience and say that it is very significant. When my husband asked me if it was a big deal to have our son dedicated, I answered with a loud: Yes! I added, with emotion in my voice, that it was comparable to any other vow we make, a vow of marriage, a promise, a vow to our God to raise our son according to his teachings and to be living examples of Christ in his daily life. Now folks, I am daily falling on my face, failing at this last ideal, but that is the desire of my heart. That my children may see Jesus, here, daily, loving them, holding them, correcting them. Although, like Paul said, the thing I want to do, I don’t do, and the thing I don’t want to do I do, is mostly what I do, I still do what honors God, Lord help me, the majority of the time. So it is my sincere hope that my son be dedicated to God; that he would dwell under the shadow of His wings forever, that he would live a life that glorifies God, and that he would desire these things for himself as well.
My Son Is Dedicated 10-3-10
